Efficiency and Sustainability of Ips duplicatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) Pheromone Dispensers with Different Designs

چکیده
Ips duplicatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is a bark beetle that recently invaded southern Europe. It produces intense outbreaks in the spruce stands installed outside their natural area. Pheromone dispensers with different designs are used for monitoring this species. Compounds released either by wick (ID Ecolure) or polyethene foil RO and Pheagr IDU). We performed series of laboratory field experiments to compare efficiency sustainability these terms pheromone release. The first experiment compared capture dynamics between ID Ecolure pheromones traps three localities 60 days. Release rates were evaluated same period. second analyzed headspace chemical composition Ecolure, RO, IDU) tested activity traps. Active compounds content varied. dispensers’ release strongly reduced from 365 50 mg/day within two weeks then steadily 16 after RO) remained constant over days (20–24 mg/day). highest initial emission was Ecolure. ratio components (ipsdienol/E-myrcenol) lower (5) (10) higher IDU (565). In experiments, significantly more caught than weeks. Later, attractivity high, but captures reduced. typograhus also considered. propose wick-type promising tool controlling hibernating generation. can be monitor flight activity.

Variation in enantiospecific attraction of Ips avulsus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) to the pheromone ipsdienol in Georgia.
In 2006, we tested the responses of the small southern pine engraver, Ips avulsus (Eichhoff) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), to multiple-funnel traps baited with (+)-, (-)-, and (+/-)-ipsdienol. Three experiments were conducted in Georgia with all traps co-baited with one of the following lure combinations, respectively: experiment 1, ipsenol; experiment 2, lanierone and (-)-alpha-pinene; and expe...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Pheromone Production by the Pepper Weevil, Anthonomus eugenii Cano (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and Collection Efficiency
Several factors affecting pheromone production by male pepper weevils, Anthonomus eugenii Cano (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) as well as collection efficiency were investigated. Factors studied included: porous polymer adsorbents (Tenax versus Super Q), male age, time of day, male density, and male diet. Super Q was found to be a superior adsorbent for the male-produced alcohols and geranic acid a...
متن کاملComparisons of boll weevil (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) pheromone traps with and without kill strips.
Boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis grandis Boheman (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), eradication programs typically equip pheromone traps with an insecticide-impregnated kill strip. These strips are intended to kill captured insects, thereby simplifying trap servicing and reducing the loss of weevils from predation and escape. However, the effectiveness of kill strips has not been extensively evaluated...

Stressed or damaged pine (Pinus sp.) trees in the southeastern United States are often colonized simultaneously by three southern Ips species (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae): small southern pine engraver, Ips avulsus (Eichhoff); sixspined ips, Ips calligraphus (Germar); and eastern fivespined ips, Ips grandicollis (Eichhoff). All three species mediate colonization of host material with ...
متن کاملComparisons of standard and extended-life boll weevil (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) pheromone lures.
The Southeastern Boll Weevil Eradication Program has proposed reducing maintenance program costs in eradicated zones by using an extended-life "superlure" in traps to detect populations of the boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis grandis Boheman. However, superlure effectiveness has not been extensively evaluated. We compared the superlure (30 mg of eugenol plus 25 mg of grandlure) to a standard lur...
